Subject: PDF files

Hello All,
I have a quark document with a large cmyk photo in it. The photo is
filed as an eps file in Photoshop. I need to convert this document to a
pdf file. When I do and print it to our imagesetter, everything comes
out fine except the photo. It does not print at all. The photo prints
fine as a quark document. After playing around with some of the settings
in distiller I was able to get the photo to print on all seps, but it
did not look sharp. I am using the hi-res photo in the quark document. I
then resaved the photo as a tiff file and converted it to a pdf and
everything printed out just fine.

I am kind of new to pdf. Does distiller have problems with eps files?
Are there some prefs that I do not know about. Any help or suggestions
would be appreciated.
Phil

Response:

Make sure your Adobe Distiller option for 'hi-res image' has been
selected. 'lo-res' can sometimes be the default. Quark, unlike PDF,
automatically prints the hi-res version (unless you elect otherwise).
