[WinMac] Do we need AppleShare

We have a small network of 3 Macs, one PC, a LaserWriter 12/640, and an
Epson Color Printer. We are currently running 10 base-T ethernet, and we
network via Appletalk. The PC is on the network using PC-MacLan (a great
program, by the way).

This setup has worked very well, but it has only been used to move files
from one machine to another, and of course to share printers across the
network. Some of the Macs, and the PC have file sharing turned on.

We are planning to add at least one more Mac, and one more PC, and make one
of the Macs a dedicated file server. The file server will probably be an
8100/80 running a Newer 240Mz G3 card. We also plan to change the 10 Base-T
to 100 Base T for those machines that can support it, and for the file
server (obviously changing out our hubs as necessary.)

Is there any big advantage to buying Appleshare IP, or can we just turn on
file sharing on the machine we designate as our file server?

Also, is this setup likely to be fast enough so we can keep the main copies
of our application programs on the file server and run them from there,
thus avoiding multiple machine updates?

Thank you.
