SoftWindows does not need a separate IP but VirtualPC does as do hardware
cards. Saying you have to disable IP on the Mac side it a bit misleading.
With a compatibility card on a LAN you just give the PC OS a static IP
address. For dialup connections you do have to choose one or the other
because the PPP server won't give both OS's an IP. I'm not sure what the
options are for other dynamic addressing networks like cable modems but my
guess is you again have to choose one or the other.

In response to Milan's message, Pointcast is a not an internet service
provider but a provider of content over the internet which requires
proprietary software.
