Thanks for this and other responses. If other people aren't all having
troubles with DAVE then maybe there is some hope. It seems worth the effort
to reformat all the disks, clean install/ugrade. I will do that, then put
DAVE 2.1 on my machine and see what happens.

Perhaps there is some other issue at work here. I knew about AppleShareIP
6.1's Windows services problem and so avoided using it in the first place.
We have been careful to only use the latest versions of HDT and Norton. For
Virus protection we have been using Virex. It is a mixed Japanese and
English environment.

I will report the results. In the mean time I would be interested to hear
from anyone who has had problems with DAVE so that we could compare
operating environments. All our Macs users are running pretty much the same
basic software set on a daily basis (Photoshop, FreeHand, Filemaker Pro,
BBEdit, DeBabelizer, multiple browsers etc.) and it is hard to ask them to
stop so that I can test wether there is a DAVE incompatibility.
