This at least could be aleviated using encripted passwords or APOP. The
tech guy should be able to set up your webmaster account for using only
APOP passwords... that would stop snoopers from getting that information.

For the rest, I'll have to go with the previous writer recommending
timbuktu as a good way of doing updates securely (among other things).
