[WinMac] Security on an NT Web Server

I subscribe to a number of lists but I suspect that this one is the best
bet for an answer that I can use.

At work, our Web server is running NT4 as the OS. We have both Microsoft
Internet Information Server which has the Front Page Server v. 4.00.5000
and Cold Fusion Server 4.0 Currently, we're running the Front Page Server
as the web server software. I believe the MIIS package also includes a
basic FTP setup.

My questions are about security. At home I use a Macintosh and I need to be
able to work from home a day or two a week performing Web site updates. Our
tech guy is MS all the way and tells me that there is no secure way for me
to FTP updates to the Web server from outside our LAN. Is this so?

I am also told that I cannot access my Web master email account from
outside because that involves sending a username and password which could
be snooped and then used to get into the server. Is this so?

My goal is simple--I just want to be able to work offsite from time to time
without compromising our Web site security.

Thanks,

Richard Hussey
