Sure, but then I'd have to travel to three continents and install software
on 50 macs (DAVE) or risk hosing the VPN (Shareway IP). Easier to just
install an ASIP server here. We are buying a server anyway, so it's not
like I'm looking for a magic piece of software which will let the macs use
RRAS.

That and the difficulties with people FTP'ing Norton Disk Doubler archives
to the NT box which is our FTP site, and then the macs try to open them but
since NT doesn't have file type and creator mappings for Disk Doubler
archives means that I get called in to unstuff files. If FTP server were a
mac this problem would never occur.

Plus you have to stuff whatever you put on the NT box or it thinks
Illustrator files are Adobe Illustrator '88 files, and so on, and so on.

(Some of the "and so on" is that since this is the central office, it would
be nice to have a single repository for ads--our current workflow has us
sending ads to the appropriate theatre, so many ads have to be sent twice
and are duplicated throughout our network. I won't even get into the
craziness we go through with our baseview system being run from three
different locations...)

Essentially we do enough with graphics and ads that I've decided it makes
much more sense to go with a dedicated mac to serve up this stuff to the ads
and graphics guys. That's why I want it for a font server too.

Thanks for the input!

Ian
