Likewise, what happens if you make a SFM volume at the root level of the
hard drive? I'd also like to know where you get this info from, since
Microsoft didn't mention it during their course...Not that I doubt you, but
I think the two caveats you bring up elucidate some of the problems with SFM
on NT: It's poorly documented and behaves strangely.

And for what it's worth, I once did have to reboot a NT Server to
re-establish Mac access to a SFM partition; merely stopping and re-starting
the service didn't help. The event viewer log said "Desktop Database for
volume "FTP" could not be loaded. Reconstructing the database," and it
still said that the next morning. Rebooting the server made SFM work again.
