NT's Macintosh 'Service' is so BAD that I recommend using Dave
instead of relying on NT - if you absolutely have to use NT to
'serve' your Macs...

Just to give you an idea of how bad Mac Services on NT are, well
first of all they haven't been updated in YEARS, secondly
performance is noticably lousy even w/o multiple clients and a stop
watch.

Apple's own comaprison chart between NT4 and AppleShare IP6.1
on comparable machines (Mac Server G3 333 MHz, 256 MB RAM
versus HP NetServer LH-3 with 400 MHz PII and 256 MB RAM)
gave the following results over a 100Base-TX network:

AppleShare server + Mac client 79 Mbps
NT server + Mac client 25 Mbps

AppleShare server + Win client 58 Mbps
NT server + Win client 64 Mbps

What these numbers indicate (granted they are put together by
Apple and I am sure they were only testing a single client and
not simulating multiple clients) is that THE combination to avoid
among these 4 is the one where NT is the server to Mac clients.

I also speak from personal experience since I can compare how
a transfer between Macs over our network fare vs. the same
transfer to our NT server - not to mention all the various bugs
that you have to fix all the time with the NT.

Using NT as a Postscript print server has been a PAIN.

Suffice to say that we are seriously looking at a new 333 G3
server for our Macs - just wish the soon-to-be-released Apple
high-capacity chassis could be out sooner!
