Thanks so much, Dan, for the lengthy explanation. I'm going to print it out in a minute to study.
Thanks for the others who responded. I'll check out the URL that was suggested.

I'm having a hard time swallowing the NT thing ;-)

I guess I should explain that I am very interested in purchasing the GoLive Web Publishing System
when it comes out & maybe investing in a server that would be able to run Apple WebObjects &
eventually Apple X. Would a Unix do that. Both network my office computers and be Apple
compatible. GoLive at present is Mac-only. I love this app. The Web Publishing System is due to be
released anytime.

Also, my Mac 8500 has a 9 GB Cheetah attached with PCI. Can it be a server. But if you attach
anything that's non-Ultra/Wide to it, it's performance goes way down.

I did forget to mention that the 2 Macs will be about 60 feet away in 2 offices. The PC will be
next to one of the Macs in the bigger office. Some kind of under-house wiring? There is no way to
run it under carpet. Sounds like I need an electrical engineer. Do you make house calls to West
Texas?

I know someone who is trying to sell a smaller Unix model. That's all I know at this point sorry.
But let me portray my stupidity and say that I've heard server programs mentioned like Apache? on a
Unix that might do what you say NT will do. . . And then maybe allow me to switch to Apple X. It
has a 1999 target release date. but these things change.

So Dan, you mention Mac-Evangelism. Yes, I'm on the e-mail list. Have been one of those 12-year
users who wouldn't dream of getting a Windows box even when Gil was at the helm and there were so
many Mac model numbers you didn't know if you were coming or going.

Thanks for the specifics on the ethernet hub, etc. I haven't really purchased a thing for this
venture yet (except for an astronomical amount towards a new Mac, yippie) & having the exact
models recommended is always a big help.

I look forward to your next post for my partner & will forward it to her.

Thanks again,
Carol
