People keep talking about the extensions of files being hidden. They
don't have to be (at least not in Explorer and not in Office).

If you're browsing the contents of a volume, go up to View, choose options,
click on the View tab, and uncheck the box that says "Hide MS-DOS file
extensions for file types that are registered"

p.s. Now if anyone knows a way to turn them back on in the save dialog of
Corel Word Perfect, that would make my day. It defaults to .doc, and
I'd rather it defaulted to .wpd. If I save file as foo.wpd, I get
foo.wpd.doc instead.
