The new version of Network Assistant (v3.5 I think) does not require AtEase
or AppleTalk, so you could still use it if you upgrade (I think you get a
10 user license with a new G3 server).

If you go with NT, you *MUST* use DAVE if you want IP only communications
with an NT server. The AFP implimentation in NT only uses AppleTalk.

The G3 server comes with AppleShareIP 6.x and allows native IP only
communications with no changes at the client as long as you're running 8.1
or later. If you're not, you can install the newest Appleshare client to
get native IP support.

Another thing to consider is cost. To get DAVE for 100 macs is not going
to be cheap. I found a 25 user edition of DAVE for $2000 at PCConnection,
although the Thursby web site mentions "aggressive educational pricing."
Even if you give a 50% discount and adjust for a larger license it could
cost you upwards on $4000 to get DAVE. A new G3/333 with 128mb of RAM and
*two* 9gb SCSI drives costs $4139 on the educational price list. The lower
end G3/300 with 64mb of RAM and one 6gb IDE drive is $2528 (educational).

All that and with DAVE you'd have to visit every desktop.

I've been trying to stay away from the potential Mac/NT holy war, and I
hope I've succeeded. If I were doing it, I would get the new G3 server
(which also includes an IMAP mail server and a web server). But I also
don't know that much NT, so it's easier for me to administer the Mac
server. '-) For you, NT with DAVE may be a good solution.
