John,

For a Mac-based solution, Communigate Pro is great (dirt cheap,
full-featured, super stable). Quickmail is a good second choice.

On the NT side, Microsoft Exchange 5.5 or Lotus Notes are the way to go.
Notes is extremely scalable, customizable and stable, and both products
are heavy-weights in features, as well as cost.

Beware of Exchange/Jazz though, I regrettably switched from Communigate
(Mac) to Exchange/Jazz (NT) and the headaches are continuous.
