what Carl said sounds basically reasonable.

what he missed is that an experienced Mac person can set up the Mac system far
faster than that, and the variability on NT installs is greater with some
instances getting really rediculous.

also, the hardware problems are inherent with NT. the obsolesence of PCs is
driven faster by NT refusing to recognize and work with anything that is not
on their "blessed" list. I've seen people replacing and throwing out,
wholesale, PC hardware components because NT wouldn't work with them - network
cards, CD drives, etc. the "plug and pray" terminology is justified. the Mac
is far better in this respect.

on the other hand, if the PCs have already been on NT and are being upgraded
from 3.5 to 4, that is less of a problem. in an environment going from Windows
3.11 or Windows 95 to NT, it can be a serious problem.

just a tip for him. if he is constantly doing lab settings with lots of
identical machines and having to repair or re-install their operating systems
due to tampering or updates, he should take a look at Ghost. it is really
cool. build one machine, then mulitcast it to a lab full of machines
simaltaneously in about 15 minutes. use Ghost Walker to rename the accounts
and assign unique SIDs.

of course, none of that really matters for you, because he is going to take
care of it all. you are going to continue with your Macs and just access his
NT server. he will have to install the services for Macintosh and find the
various default settings that might not be appropriate (like capturing
AppleTalk printers). otherwise, getting a Mac on ethernet is easy.
