I don't mean to be rude, but that sounds like a pure Novell question. I don't
see anything cross platform in it. I mention that only because it seems you
would have better resources to turn to than this list.
My Novell server is 4.10, and I use NWAdmin to set things up. It's a bit
different. However, I know that when I first started learning it, we had some
Novell "Consultants" in, and they had trouble setting up a print Q for us.
Since I have learned how, I found that it is very picky about the precise
order in which things are done. I bookmarked a chapter in "The Complete Guide
to Netware 4.10" (or something like that -- one of those 3 inch thick books).
Even after having set up quite a few, I go to that reference for the step by
step. Works every time. Guessing from memory for now, I create the Q, the PS
and then the P objects. Then I link the PS and P, then the Q and PS (again
guessing from memory). I print a configuration page from the printer so that I
have it's hardware address. Then in Jet Admin, I look for unconfigured devices
on the network, check the hardware address and configure it. I name it
precisely the same name as the PS object in Netware. Make sure that under
options in Jet Admin, the default network protocol is Netware, not TCP/IP --
otherwise you won't see the options you need. When the screen comes up to
connect the device to a Novell Q, you can enter the specifications for the Q.
Then you are ready to go to the PC workstation and configure the printer for
use.
You can trust my description for the general idea, but I would get a reference
for exact steps with respect to your own version of Novell. (3.12 does not
have NDS??). Part of my point is to say that the installation is very finicky.
If you do a step out of order, you may not be able to get it right without
deleting everything and starting over again. Ultimately I deleted all the work
that our paid consultants did. Works better now, and the structure is cleaner.
I've gotten Windows 3.11, Windows 95, NT and Mac all to work with the Novell
server. Pretty wierd combinations sometimes.
