[WinMac] RE: E-Mail System Research

Ethan,

Wow, someone else who uses QuickMail! We were in the same
position a year ago: we looked at Netscape, Exchange, Groupwise,
and Notes. Exchange was chosen, although it isn't a very good
cross-platform choice: the native Mac client doesn't have
identical functionality and OWA (Outlook Web Access)
has problems of its
own in the email field so we decided to go with OWA for
calendar and Netscape IMAP for mail on the Mac side.
Netscape is a fairly good client but requires more instruction
and hand-holding than we initially thought.

If everyone had a PC, Outlook would be a good choice.
(maybe not the best, but usable). But,
IMHO, it leaves a lot to be desired from a cross-platform
point of view.

(these comments are based on testing I did in June; since
then, MS has released service pack 1 for Exchange server
which may alter some or all of the above, especially the
comments about native Mac client and OWA functionality.)
