[WinMac] Font Display Differences

Does anyone know why, for example, 12-point type displays much larger on a
Windows monitor than it does on a Mac monitor -- but both print out at the
same size? (Resolutions of the monitors have rough parity, so that's not the
problem.) I notice this mostly when using Microsoft Outlook between
platforms.
When using Outlook for Windows:
- Windows-based e-mail message has "normal" looking text, very readable.
Prints smaller.
- Mac-based e-mail message has huge text -- appears to be 18 points or so.
Prints much smaller.
When using Outlook for Macintosh:
- Windows-based e-mail message has very small, almost unreadable text.
Prints larger.
- Mac-based e-mail message displays text at WYSIWYG size. Printout matches
monitor.
I know you can change the global default text size in Windows, but this
causes problems with other programs' menus and so forth. Is there a way to
get the font size equal across platforms?
