[WinMac] Calendar Alerts

One of the organisations I do volunteer work with, as an officer, creates
an annual calendar detailing when things need to be acted upon and by whom.
This calendar is distributed to all officers in the hope that they will
refer to it wth regularity and act upon their responsibilities on time.
This last hope is not being realised. The calendar is a Word document.

The organisation in question has part time paid staff that could alert
officers of critical upcoming dates. Therefore, I would like to set up a
system that:

At a minimum would, automatically, throw up an alert on a screen signalling
an upcoming date; or,

More elaborately, set it up to send an e-mail alert to the appropriate
office holders.

The calendar is held in a Word document on a Macintosh. I would like to be
able to set up something similar in Windows (NT and 95).

I would appreciate any suggestions.
