You needn't use Dave to share files from NT server. You can make a mac
readable volume. It might be interesting to see if your NT server will be
faster than the appleshare server you already have. You may already know
that NT server's Mac-readable volume can't be shared to the Macs over IP
directly. But you can use SharewayIP Professional to do that (to enable
remote access, for example). You can download an evaluation copy from
http://www.opendoor.com/

Basically SharewayIP runs on a mac and acts as a router-- receiving TCP/IP
packets intended for your Appletalk server and turning them into straight
appletalk, and taking appletalk from the server and routing them via TCP/IP
back to the client.

Since the Mac will be acting only as router and not as disk storage for
shared files, I would imagine that you will see performance improvements.

Other alternatives: run straight Appletalk via K-Ashare or other Unix or
Linux emulation of Appleshare server-- you very likely will get better
performance than with a Mac running appleshare.
