[WinMac] Mac Word98 <-> Win Wordperfect

Is there a way to successfully share documents between a Mac running
Word98 and Wintel based computers running Wordperfect? I have tried
MacLinkPlus translators, save as earlier versions of word for windows,
and save as RTF. None of these worked correctly. Is there an easy way
that I have missed?
