[WinMac] SFM still a problem after post SP3 patch?

Greetings,

I trust I have mailed this post to the correct address. I'm hoping you can
forward this to the forum to get some collective wisdom on the problem.

I'm having continual problems with Services for Macintosh under NT 4.0,
even though I have patched to both Service Pack 3 *and* the post-SP3 patch
available from Microsoft as "sfm-fixi.exe".
The problem exhibited itself originally when I was running SFM (fine till
that point) and then tried to create a new Mac accessible volume using the
File Manager. The machine immediately slowed to about 1% or less of its
usual speed. Not a crash, mind you, just running *incredibly* slowly. If
you can wait the hour it takes to load, the task manager indicates CPU
usage has jumped to 100% and sticks there. The only solution was to disable
or remove SFM from the system.
Now, the worst of it is that I have installed the patch as Microsoft
recommends but it behaves in exactly the same way. Has anyone else
experienced the same symptoms?
