The new PowerBook G3's CAN NOT run while closed. If you close it it will
go into sleep mode, even if there's an external monitor connected. It
will not come out of sleep mode unless the case is opened (not all the
way...2 inches or so will do).

I used to run my 3400, and 540c, and 160 with an external monitor & the
case shut for days at a time, never had a problem with heat. The new
PB's are just hotter...in more ways than one!
