If you use NT or 95, and are on a LAN of some kind, then you can use a
PC program called WinGATE. WinGATE acts as a proxy, where the PC would
be setup to go out the cable modem, and the Mac would be configured to
go to the PC. The program handles all IP forwarding issues. Fairly
easy to setup, a very good performer, but a little pricey. Handles all
of the protocols that I know of, but I have only personally tried
Telnet, HTTP, and FTP.
