Not sure with Windows 3.11. However, in both Windows 95 and Windows NT, you
should not have any problems. You can safely remove the other protocols from
the Network Control Panel on both Windows OS versions. For Window 95 you need
to leave Client for Microsoft Networks installed, and just good old TCP/IP
protocol for Windows NT, as the client is built-in per say in the Services tab.

However, if you can get just the client for Microsoft Networks loaded on
Windows 3.11 with TCP/IP then you should not have a problem. I remember from
my days at Apple when I used to support the DOS Cards, that Windows 3.11 and
DOS Networking was the biggest call generators.

Do do know however, there are tons of articles written, some that I authored
on the Apple Technical Information Library that illustrate just how to perform
the task you are looking for.
