We've used it; had a bit of nightmare initially trying to get it to work
with the Win95 using Plug&Pray, but since then it's been fine.
We also use Zip regularly in a particular setup at a client site to move a
small number of files from a Win95 machine to a Mac (two fixed drives, not
moving one of the auto-sensing ones between the machines). We ran into a
couple of problems there that are worth knowing about:
a) Initially, the files from Win95 could be read fine, but the long names
they had on Win95 appeared on the Mac as 8.3 travesties. To sort this
required a third-party extension. We found that a product called
"DOS Mounter 95", from "Software Architects", worked for us. I understand
that Apple's PC Exchange is going to be upgraded to fix this - may require
MacOS 8.1 or later.
b) The Mac runs AppleShare. We got hit with a very nasty problem, in
which putting a DOS formatted Zip cartridge in the Mac's Zip drive caused
an immediate freeze, if AppleShare was, or even had been, running. The
machine had to be booted with AppleShare off in order to use a DOS Zip
successfully. I'm sorry to say that my notes don't reveal - and I can't
now recall - how we got round this. I think it was a combination of
upgrading MacOS from 8.0 to 8.1, upgrading to latest AppleShare, and
installing "DOS Mounter 95".
Since we got that sorted, it works fine.
Hope this helps
