Subject: Multiplatform Network Fax software

Hola Juan, and Jim, too, who asked about this a few days ago.
i researched this for a client a few months ago, and if you want to
_print to a networked fax server_ all i found was:
Fax Sr. Enterprise Server from Omtool (http://www.omtool.com/) and NET
SatisFAXtion 6.0 (http://www.netsatisfaxtion.com/).
The bad news is, i recently checked at NET SatisFAXtion's page, and
while two months ago they listed support for FAXstf (Ah, remember that
program?) as a _client_, now there's no mention of it. i've mailed both
FAXstf and NET SatisFAXtion (dang that's a badly capitalized name)
asking them about the issue, but neither has gotten back to me.
Notice i underlined _print to a networked fax server_. By that i mean
that there's probably a Chooser extension that will let you choose to
print to fax (which then gets sent over the network to the "fax
server"). Additionally, a proper client would let you maybe hold down
the Option key when selecting Print, and it would automatically choose
the fax client for that print job.
Of course there's more than one way to fax a cat:
Plenty of fax servers exist that allow you to mail documents as
attachments to a mail server that then converts the attachments to faxes
and sends them. There's even a version of the aforementioned NET
SatisFAXtion that does this.
And, as Scott mentions, there's programs like http://www.rightfax.com/
that let you submit documents to be faxed via a web server. (Sounds
kind of shady to me - what, do you _upload_ your documents to the
server? Yuck.)
For lots of juicy info on the plethora of NT Fax Server products out
there, i heartily recommend going to
http://www.stonecarver.com/ntfax-faq.html and browsing through their
list. (i'd just look at the LAN solutions, unless you have a _lot_ of
time on your hands.)
Sorry this one's so long. Guess i got carried away. >:}
