Subject: Cross-platform Word file

Hi, folks-thank you for the list!
Some (relatively) computer illiterates have emailed (as attachments)
WinWord rtf files to me. When my Word 98 reads the files, I can see the
section they've put into color-but the characters are invisible!
I don't have the special font they used-I have the Mac version. Simply
substituting the font (the logical solution) doesn't work. They can't
tell me what WinWord feature/option they've used that would do such a
thing. I've tried all the Word 98 options I can find (including make
hidden text visible). The Help files have no more suggestions.
And I do NOT want to spend an hour on the phone to MS!
In desperation, I saved the file as HTML-which makes the characters
visible-as long as I'm in "online view". Switching back to the other
views makes it go away again.
Anyone know how to get Word 98 to stop being so helpful?
rkm
