Good afternoon,
If the 61000 is still (somewhat) stock, it's my understanding that the
NUBus PC card will not support Win95 or Win98. If you wanted to purchase
a NewerTech G3 upgrade you could do that, however it'd undoubtedly take
the place of the PC Card.
Best option I can think of given the 6100 case and (supposed) need for
inexpensive remedies: go for a NewerTech G3 card, look into additional
RAM for the motherboard, purchase one of the Windows emulation packages
(Virtual PC 2.0 comes to mind but don't quote me on it), and run
Speedisk on the drive to degraf/optimize the data.
One last tidbit: if the HD is whining, squealing or generally making a
keening sound, it's about time to swap it out for another one. We have
quite a numnber of those CPU's on campus and 4-5 years seems to be the
limit for the drive. Personally I suspect a combination of poor
ventilation w/i the case due to design (w/ and w/o the PC card), simply
old HD's and minimal (if any) power protection used on campus.
Hope this helps,

Daniel
